Words cannot describe how much this is a HIT ! Kimbra is a Kiwi based in Melbourne and thanks to Crazed Hits for bringing this to our attention. This should be massive.
I have to say that as a fan of A-ha I was apprehensive about someone attempting to cover
one of their clasic tracks but Color Theory aka Brian Hazard has done a brilliant job so much
so I had to stop listening to it in the car because I would play it so loud it would distract
me when driving.
I suggest a smart a&r person who wants to improve their hit ratio for the year should pick this up.
Crowdfunding is huge and probably the latest trend in the music business. We have had Slicethepie and Sellaband but My Major Company seem to up the bar.
Describing themselves as a proper fully staffed record companies, they have had one act raise £100,000 in a week and another, Some Velvet Morning have raised a third of this in a week.
Seems to bridge the gap between DIY record labels and a traditional label. You can join the site as an investor but not as an artist which sets it apart from Sellaband for example, where you can join as an artist. I think it is interesting and it does give members of the public a more robust platform making their investment less of a risk. Only time will tell if it will catch on.
Watch their manifesto below:
It’s not quite an iPad and it’s bigger than an iPhone but is it any good ? It certainly won’t have any of the Apple apps but it looks pretty good to me.
Ok first of let me admit I have practically avoided Katy Perry’s music due to her constant media attention for anything but the music. Her constant teasing plus her engagement to Russell Brand !!! was too much for me. But after putting all these shenanigans aside I can say she is the top female artist at the moment, forget about Lady Gaga it’s all about Katy now.
It’s been dubbed as the perfect alternative to Simon Cowell’s X-Factor, it has already yielded at least 3 chart hits for its contestants and we haven’t even reached the final yet. The winner of the show will receive a £100,000 cash fund rather than a record contract with an emphasis on giving the acts control over their careers, and every song performed on the show is available to download from iTunes and Sky Songs 100% of the net profits of the songs and merchandise going to the musicians. Make no mistake this show is the most important music TV show at the moment as it will herald a shift in how TV talent shows will evolve. I think it is brilliant and with a few tweaks here and there could totally eclipse Cowell’s pantomime shows. Watch, rate and comment.
I joined Jango to test their capacity to promote indie bands and artists but from a user’s point of view I found it fascinating in the sense that you create a radio station based on artists you like and you can hear all kinds of good stuff. One of the tracks that grabbed me was "Lullaby" by Chase Coy. It is truly beautiful acoustic music and that’s saying a lot coming from me. Have a listen to it and let us know what you think.

I first listened this out of curiousity but find the chorus is catchy and pleasant enough and Katie’s voice is no different to all the other autotuned vocals out there at the moment. So many might laugh at its campness but I think Katie doesn’t take herself too seriously and is having fun with it so I say go Katie ! FRee to Love Again.
Not exactly new by any means but a significant article last year means greater opportunities for quailty content providers. Now that the internet gives advertisers a lot more accountability and greater means of tracking ad performance, it is time to shift the style of adverts online to a model that would take advantage of this. Music is going to be a vital part of this as would music videos and short movies or webisodes.
